Board of Education Celebrates Young Author's State Win in National Contest

Explorer Academy Student A.J. Irby West Virginia Winner in Library of Congress Summer Writing Contest

A.J. Irby with his family and representatives of the Cabell County Public Library and Cabell County Board of EducationAt their meeting Tuesday, September 19, 2017, Cabell County Board of Education members and Superintendent Ryan Saxe celebrated the accomplishments of A.J. Irby, a 5th Grade student at Explorer Academy.  

A.J. was recently named the State Winner for West Virginia in the 2017 "A Book That Shaped Me" Library of Congress National Book Festival Summer Writing Contest.

At the meeting, A.J. read his essay about "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" by J.K. Rowling.  This winning essay was submitted to the Library of Congress by the Gallaher Village branch of the Cabell County Public Library.

Cabell County Public Library representatives attended the Board meeting to help celebrate A.J.'s success.  They included Judy Rule, Director; Brianna Bowen, Assistant Director for Youth Services; and Julianne Tillis, Gallaher Village Branch Manager.
