- INCUBATOR SCHOOL DESIGN MEETING
NOVEMBER 21, 2013
Once again the design committee met on the design components of the new school. Stan Maynard and the preschool staff hosted the meeting at MU. The following is a summary of the agenda and meeting. Project Update: G. Kent and Peyton School closing hearings have been completed. Dec. 20th the Cabell county staff will hold an election to determine whether or not the staffs of these two schools will receive priority hiring. Reminder that the project MUST stay in budget. Ochoa Community Magnet School video was watched comprised of Reggio program k-5.
Authentic purposeful and child driven projects were highlighted and students learn through movement and activities. This approach results in fewer behavior problems.
A walk through of the gallery was displayed a variety of work was displayed.
A room tour was also provided of the Pre-K for innovative ideas at the new school.
Upon return, groups at tables shared what they saw during the walk through.
Discussion was held and a handout provided on Expeditionary Learning and Reggio Emilia Approach.
Topics of Discussion:
Flexible space, furniture on wheels with no backs. Calm paint on the walls and an observation room.
Soft music plays in the background and indirect lighting in the room.
Teacher space goes away.
Data and control space for teachers.
No TVs in the new school.
Link smart boards with mounted speakers.
Wireless mics for teachers, Teachers talk softly.
Field Turf for the main play area with play areas on ground level for Pre-K. Design
Documents are nearing completion. It is hopeful abatement and selective demolition can be bid in February.
